Behind Abnormal Joy

My name is aBnormal joY and I’m from Prince George’s County, Maryland. Currently living in Charles County.

What do you make?

I make music, and I would say I make a variety of things.

From dark trap to trap metal to horrorcore to emo rap, and I’m currently constructing a genre from the ground up. More on that in the future.

When did you start/how long?

I started back in 2010 when I was eight, but everything I made from then to around 2016 was really nonsense and offered nothing to me or the world. I started counting my time as an artist in early 2017 when I officially changed my name to aBnormal joY. I had taken on a new purpose within myself and my music by then. The short answer is three years.

What makes you different/what’s your unique style?

I hate to pull the female card but honestly! There are few to none female rap artists who have taken on the sounds that I have, who are pioneering what I am pioneering. I take pride in the fact that I am a female who dabbles in dark trap, trap metal and so on. I also feel like some of my songs sound inexplicably like me, such as LiTTle GrEEn! I feel like it’s very hard to pinpoint that kind of sound and it makes me happy.

Any projects recent or future you’re excited about?

I’m still riding high on the buzz that my recent drop, !~NEVOLUTION~! has gotten me.

Literally everyone seems to bang with it, I can honestly say that I’ve heard no negative feedback as of right now, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing haha. A future project that I’m super pumped about, between me and y’all, is this Christmas EP that I’m putting together. It’s super different from what I’ve been doing and I feel like it’ll be a nice switch/break from all the heavy things I’m used to creating.
